It's hard to decide, because I've always been flipping around operating systems, but Linux is really good for browsing the web, editing text, and for programming. So it might be good for someone who only browses the web, but It's not perfect fo me as I have to use Photoshop and Illustrator every day. And I also like to play the newest games... :) I think Linux is for servers or developers, it's still not as good for everyday use as Windows or a Mac. |

That may be true before but now not. The new Linux distros have very good GUI. Some have desktop environments which, in my opinion, are even better than windows. As for graphics work, you should give GIMP a try. You can save your work in psd format, too, if you are doing work for someone who insists that the work be done in Photoshop. |

I know that GIMP is good too, but it's still not as feature rich as Photoshop, and I have to use PSDs that were edited in Photoshop by my colleagues, and it still has some compatibility issues... And when I'm using Photoshop I use Illustrator at the same time, and I'm flipping the files between the two, if you know what I mean. |

Compatibility issues? That's news to me. So do you mean that when you use GIMP and you save in psd format, you will have problems when you open those GIMP-generated-psd files in Photoshop? |

I dual-boot my desktop with Xubuntu and Windows 7 64-bit so I get the best of both worlds honestly. I find this is the best way to go about it. I need windows for my gaming fix on PC but minus the gaming I can definitely just focus on using Linux or OSX for every day use. :) |
