If you have not yet set up an avatar and wish to set one up read on. Before you set up a new avatar please first read: Standard Avatar Policy * Step 1: Click on [Account] this is located near the top, under the site banner. * Step 2: Click on Blue Profile Button on the left hand side * Step 3: In the sub menu, click on "Edit Avatar" * Step 4: Select an avatar using the "Choose File" button. Once your avatar file name appears, click on the green "submit" button. File Restrictions: * Needs to be jpeg format. * File resolution has to be 100 pixel by 100 pixel * Can not be more than 6kB in size. Hope that helps. |

Is there anyway to get the picture size increased? I know my pictures even after they have been compressed do not get that small. If I compress them again they lose all the details and look like a naughty picture because they are so blurry! |

I'm sure we would be able to up the file size limit to something like 10kb. The thing to keep in mind is that although this number may seem small, as the number of users grows it all starts to add up in terms of storage and bandwidth. Hopefully if you use a good image editor, you can get excellent compression quality. If you look at my avatar, this is exactly 6kb and it still looks sharp. It all depends on the original resolution, and the compression settings you use. |

I must admit having a little more in terms of file size would be nice! I know I had to play with the compression settings a bit to get just the right balance! But on the flip side as darknite has said it is possible to get decent results, just need put a bit of elbow grease ;) |

This is what I did in Paint.NET: first I cropped a high resolution image (HD Wallpaper) so it had a square ratio 1080 pixel X 1080 pixels. Then I simply resized down to 100pixels x 100pixels. Then played with the compression quality until it was just below 6kb: ![]() |
