So, have you ever tried learning Python? Was it difficult for you or did you grasp it?

I tried learning it from Udacity.com and did the first unit. I gave up in the middle of the 2nd unit lol. It got quite confusing. I just let it go because I don't really need Python since it's not used as often as other programming languages like PHP. But, I have to say it really does some complex jobs, like programs a robotic car... :)

I've actually only had one encounter with Python. I had to use it for an assisgnment in my SysAd class to validate addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses. It was more of a lesson on regular expressions than a Python course. I learned enough to know that Python is quite the high level language. I wrote 4 separate programs in about an hour, each validating a different type of string. Programming that assignment in C without regular expressions would have taken much longer.

Hello snickerchat,

I would suggest that you create a new thread, and give as much detail as possible. Remember, put your self in other user's shoes. Would you understand the question that you posted?

The more detailed a question is phrased the more likely others will be able to help you quicker :)

I tried using python for about half a year, all the time I could spare at the time, and I can
say that it is very difficult, for me anyways.

Maybe it might have been my teacher? I don't know Hahaha he did a very bad job at
teaching my class most of our learning was in study groups outside of class lol

Well Python is the only code that I know well but only because it's the only one my school taught me so far. (Next year Java) I heard that it's the easiest language to master out there and from my experiences, that's very true. I feel it's so limited though.

Python is BIG, its massively popular among software developers. It really fun to develop in and its really powerful.

Put it this way, some of the best software engineers end up in Google, and what language does Google love? you guessed it Python! (yes I know they use a mash up of other tools, but Python plays a big part).

I also know that in academia its used a lot. There are a lot of scientific libraries too. Heck there are even libraries for games and web development to name a few.

I don't understand how google use Python :/ Isn't all the hardcore part done with C++, etc.? I made my first game with Python but it felt so limited with the performance it gave me.

It really depends on what part of Google we are talking about, in many cases its a mixture of C++ and Python. However things like Google Application Engine is pure Python I think as is youtube.

Google

"Python has been an important part of Google since the beginning, and remains so as the system grows and evolves. Today dozens of Google engineers use Python, and we're looking for more people with skills in this language." said Peter Norvig, director of search quality at Google, Inc.
